The National Universities Commission (NUC) has unveiled a plan to help unemployed Ph.D
holders secure employment within the Nigerian university system.
NUC
Executive Secretary, Prof Julius
Okojie, said this at an
interactive dinner with newsmen on Thursday.
“It is
amazing seeing the number of Ph.D. holders that come to my office and say they
are looking for jobs," he said.
Okojie
said universities need qualified staff and it is therefore worrisome that
holders of Ph.Ds. are unemployed.
He said
the NUC would therefore create a portal where the Ph.D. holders can register
and universities can recruit them from.
“On the
other hand, many universities are looking for Ph.D. holders to employ; we will
create a portal that will serve as a pool from which the universities can
engage such people."
Unemployment,
the state of being without a paid job, is a major challenge facing many
Nigerians
