A leaflet containing condemnation of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau is reportedly being circulated in some towns in Adamawa state.

According to Daily Trust report, the leaflet was allegedly dropped by a purported breakaway faction of the radical Islamist sect.

Some of the residents of Song and Gombi where the leaflets are circulating claimed that a helicopter which hovered around the skies dropped them on Thursday.

One of the resident of Song said ‎the several copies of the documents being dropped from the sky, prompted suspicion about the authors.

Adamu Yau, a resident of Gombi said: “A helicopter flew over when we saw flyers falling from the sky. We rushed to pick them and found out they contained message from Boko Haram written in Arabic, Hausa and English. I read the one in Hausa in which the writers expressed regret over the senseless killings.”

It was gathered that the flyers were signed by three people bearing the names of towns; Gamboru, Damask and Alagamo.

The messages in the leaflet were said to contain remorse for the group’s atrocities. They regretted that the group which started with peaceful preaching has turned violent, killing Christians and Muslims and burning property while the leadership make benefit from looted property.

The Holy Quran in Surah 8:61 taught us that Islam is a religion of peace, the conditions for jihad is clearly stated in chapter 2:100. The Quran further taught us in Surah 6:151 that we should not kill any innocent persons for Allah has made life sacred.

“We started on the right path through preaching. Today, we have burnt all the villages and killed people that are not of the same faith with us. We have also chased them out of their homes. We are now killing fellow Muslims in contradiction to Surah 4: 29-30 and in defiance to the instruction of Allah.

“Brothers it is time for us to rethink our actions and stop the aimless destructions and wanton killings under the disguise of religion and jihad,”
the leaflet read.
Seems like the use of leaflet is becoming a trend. Last weekend, Boko Haram had reportedly shared leaflets warning Gombe people not to vote.

Some days back, Boko Haram released a new video vowing to disrupt the upcoming 2015 general elections.

In reaction to this threat, the Nigerian military vowed to secure Nigeria against insurgents during and after the elections. The Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade insisted that they would not be intimidated by the threats from the terrorists.
